Volume 2
At The Low Carb Grocery, one of the things we try to do is help our customers approach a low carb diet the right way and with more variety. This week, we're announcing a new pilot project in preparation for a new product launch called "Induction in a Box". The induction phase of any low carb diet (and many of them have one) is the toughest for most people because there is a perception that there is little to eat. We believe that with enough preparation, it can be a significantly more enjoyable experience.

While on the topic of induction, we'll also discuss the role of protein, and their benefit, particularly in the form of protein shakes because of the important role they will play in our new induction solution.

Finally, just for simple fun and inspiration, I came across something interesting while looking at pictures of Fat cats (don't ask me why). Guess what some cat owners do to help their cats to lose weight?

Induction in a Box Pilot

At The Low Carb Grocery, we work hard every day to bring you the VERY BEST SELECTION for low carb and sugar-free products. As a majority of our products are imported, or made personally by "Chef William" (a.k.a. Jacques) our variety is found nowhere else. However, we want to go one step further.

We want to provide a total solution which includes education, meals, and supplements. Our vision is to create a product called "Induction-in-a-Box" which provides everything needed to complete 2 weeks of the Atkins Induction Phase - the toughest first two weeks. The solution will include not only the right food bars and snacks, but delicious hot and filling meals that have low carb count and packed with nutrients (low carb chilli, chicken parmesan, stuffed chicken with bok choy, or chicken casserole, anyone?). The solution will arm our customers with variety and completeness to face the induction phase head on.

The development of any new product/solution is complex and we are therefore seeking participants in our pilot phase of this solution. Don't expect to see this solution openly available any time soon, however - it could be months before we officially launch the solution. But we are looking for participants now. Are you looking for clear guidance on your low carb diet? Are you looking for a total solution to jump start your weight loss? Read on to find out more.

The importance of protein, and protein shakes

Protein is a part of every cell in your body, and no other nutrient plays as many different roles in keeping you alive and healthy. It is important for the growth and repair of your muscles, bones, skin, tendons, ligaments, hair, eyes and other tissues. Without it, you would lack the enzymes and hormones you need for metabolism, digestion and other important processes. Your body needs many different proteins for various purposes. It makes them from about 20 building blocks called amino acids. Protein is found in meat, chicken, turkey, fish and dairy foods as well as legumes (beans, peas and peanuts).

Protein-rich foods such as meats, poultry, eggs, and fish are generally more expensive and take longer to prepare than average foods. This partly explains why people consume more carbohydrate-rich foods in their daily diets. You can have a protein shake any time of day, and is a good alternative (or complement) to eggs and bacon if you're on an induction phase of a low carb diet. I'm sure most will agree that having eggs every day can get boring quickly.

Protein powders are obviously rich in protein and simple to prepare. They're generally low in carbohydrates (but ultra-low carb protein shakes are available) and other essential nutrients; their function is to provide your body with a generous amount of quality protein.

Low Carb Diets for Cats?
Texas A&M University   fatcat
June 3, 2004 - If your cat's waistline looks more like Garfield's than Simba's, maybe it's time he goes low- carb. The king of the jungle never wastes time at the salad bar when it's antelope night on the savannah.

All cats, including your Fluffy, are metabolically adapted for higher protein, low-carbohydrate diets, says Dr. Debra L. Zoran, a clinical assistant professor of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University.

"More than 35 percent of cats in the United States are overweight or obese," says Zoran.

Besides sex, age and activity level, feeding style is a significant contributor to obesity, she says. Traditional weight loss plans include low-fat, high- carbohydrate foods. However, cats are not traditional animals when it comes to their ideal diet.
