Atkins Products & Low Carb Grocery's Online

The Atkins diet was devised by Dr.Atkins who deduced that a low carb diet would induce the body to burn more fat instead and change the body’s metabolic activity. As a result, the body becomes more efficient at burning fat as a source of energy. As fat composition decreases, dieters consistently benefit from higher energy levels.

All Atkins followers maintain strict control over what they eat in terms of carbohydrates. In addition to meats, nuts, eggs, cheeses, and nutrient rich greens (such as spinach and broccoli), low carbohydrate forms of traditionally high carbohydrate products are allowed.

For example, Atkins products that are easily available in Atkins stores as well as our website provide a variety of protein bars and nutrition shakes that help ease carbohydrate and sugar cravings. At the Low Carb Grocery, we provide the best selection of Atkins products in Canada. By selling Atkins products online, we have supported thousands of dieters across Canada in all provinces and territories.

Atkins has become a buzzword for dieters all over the world that can resonate both positively and negatively.

Those who love the Atkins diet love it because you do not stop eating many of the foods you love and enjoy many freedoms to eat what you like within very simple guidelines. The diet’s simplicity is one of the key reasons why many are successful on it. Another reason is because the diet allows you to eat fats as well as protein. The only thing you need to watch carefully is the amount of carbohydrates eaten – and this is very easy to determine just by looking at food labels and simple to determine for whole fresh foods such as meats and poultry (meats and poultry are high in protein and provide low or no carbohydrates).

Those who don’t subscribe to the Atkins diet often don’t understand it fully. Those that do understand the diet may still not approve of it – but in our opinion, that’s fine too. Not everyone likes low calorie, low fat diets either because frankly, they’re not much fun =).

Results speak for themselves and we at the Low Carb Grocery interact with customers daily who have had great success on the diet and have stunned their friends, family, and doctors with the results they have achieved. Their results are fast and sustainable. There are numerous studies that have been released recently that have reaffirmed what Dr. Atkins knew all along. See our News page (under science news) at http://www.thelowcarbgrocery.com/news.php for more details.

How it works:

Note: Anyone wishing to start the Atkins diet should purchase Dr. Atkins book and ensure they understand it fully. This ensures best results and healthy weight loss. Understanding key concepts such as net carb, fibre, sugar alcohols/polyols, and atkins-net-count are very important to staying healthy. This summary is provided as an overview only.

Dr. Atkins divided the diet into four easy phases:

In the first phase, called induction phase, you consume 20grams of net carbohydrates on a daily basis that helps you to lose weight. The 20 grams of net carbohydrates should be mostly from nutrient rich vegetables (i.e. spinach or broccoli, rather than ice-berg lettuce which is low in nutritional value) that you eat. You can also consume specially designed Atkins products that are available at the Online Atkins store in the US or right here at Low Carb Grocery in Canada.

In the second phase, you slowly increase your daily net carbohydrate intake by 5 grams each week until your weight loss stops for more than a week. If you stop losing weight, reduce your net carbohydrate intake by 5grams each week until you resume a steady weight loss this is your critical net carbohydrate for losing weight. You stay on this phase until you are within 5 to 10 pounds away from your goal weight.

During the first two phases, you may be tempted by high carb products that you normally enjoy but have avoided. Hectic work schedules, stress, and time constraints may make you reach for those foods that can derail your progress. Atkins Nutritional's has designed certain products that can help. These Atkins products are available at the online Atkins store in the US or can be purchased online through our website for Canadians.

In the third phase, the pre maintenance phase, you are near your target weight and therefore try and stop the weight loss so that you can maintain a constant weight. In this phase you add another 10 grams of net carbohydrates to your daily intake for as long as you continue to gradually lose weight (less than a pound a week). If your weight loss stops completely, cut back by 5 or 10 grams until it resumes. You are on this phase until you reach your goal weight.

The last phase of the Atkins diet is where you start practising life maintenance. This life maintenance is all about restricting the net carbohydrate intake to a set amount that will help you maintain your weight. This is also known as your equilibrium point, where the amount of net carbohydrates you take in is offset by your normal levels of physical activity and metabolism.

Keeping your diet interesting is the key to success. At The Low Carb Grocery, we offer the largest range of Atkins products in Canada as well as other low carb foods. We wish you success on your journey!
